Ulis, 16th May 2006 – Impact Technologies, manufacturer of Itium thin client solutions and Fitwin asynchronous communications adaptors, announce the availability of a new generation thin client, the Itium 2930, representing an evolution of the existing 2920 model. Utilising an AMD Geode GX2 processor and equipped with 128MB of DDRAM, the performance of this architecture makes the Itium 2930 easy to use, and offers a graphics fluidity comparable to those on a PC, The Itium 2930 also benefits from a range of connectivity facilitating its operations with the higher usage peripherals, (USB keys. USB printers, CD-Rom drives) and its integration in the wireless Wifi networks.
Range of connectivity
Created around a Windows CE or Linux kernel, optimised by Impact Technologies, the Itium 2930 distinguishes itself through connectivity catering as much for compatible hardware as for software. In addition to a PCI 2.2 slot in the rear face, the Itium 2930 will be equipped with 4 USB 2.0 ports (two in the front face, two in the rear) from now on. The system integrates all the generic drivers for USB keys and portable mass storage peripheral devices.
- generic drivers for CD-rom drives
- generic drivers for USB keys and portable mass storage devices
- drivers for USB printers
Support for networks without wireless WiFi
The Itium 2930 is also enhanced by WiFi connectivity. The system comes equipped with default system drivers and administrative functions necessary for use on an 8-2.11 b/g WiFi router. Like the Itium 2930’s other functions, the Wifi function is remotely managed via the centralised Itium Admin console.
Remote administration
Supplied free with the Itium 2930 thin clients, and compatible with the entire Itium thin client range, the Itium Admin console simplifies the thin client distribution, configuration and remote management, authorising updates via the default hub network software, using simple drag and drop. The intuitive browsing (tree configuration) facilitates group creation according to the location or job function.
Furthermore, the Itium 2930 inherits from the set of new generation Impact Technology Itium thin client characteristics :
- An internal power supply for greater flexibility and simplified development
- An integrated sound card
- An X.11 client (available with the Linux version)
- A PCI 2.2 slot
The Itium 2930 thin client also adheres to the European ROHS directive, which, from the 1st of July, specifies the elimination of materials such as lead, cadmium. Mercury, hexavalant chrome…..
With a more powerful processor, the use of DDRAM memory and an extensive level of connectivity, the Itium 2930 forges a new path in respect of ease of use, declared Jean-Nicolas Durand, President of Impact Technologies. With the integration of WiFi technology, the Itium 2930 is also proof of Impact Technologies’ ability to continue the evolution of its thin clients to accommodate the evolution of business usage.
As regards IMPACT Technologies: Created in 1987, Impact Technologies is the manufacturer for ranges of new generation Itium thin clients and for the Fitwin asynchronous communication adaptors, which are among the most popular sold on the market today.
In the thin client domain, Impact Technologies conceived and integrated the embedded operating systems Windows CE, Linux Embedded Windows XP Embedded. As entirely upgradeable systems, the Itium thin clients can be managed, configured and updated remotely, via the administrative interface delivered with the terminals. Impact Technologies is the only supplier in the market to include its package of administrative aids, hot lines and follow-up for software updates in the initial acquisition costs. To date, more than 65000 terminals have been installed worldwide.
Impact Technologies is also the European number one among the leading world players in the asynchronous communication adaptor market. The Fitwin adaptors are installed in more than 1 million items, especially in almost one third of the automated cash dispensers in the world. They are also used in the retail and distribution industry, in railway systems and in numerous other industries.
Based at Ulis, near Paris, and with about 20 employees, Impact Technologies recorded a turnover of 5.7 million euros in 2005.
