Impact Technologies presents the 4.0 version of ITL, its Linux distribution specifically designed for its range of Itium thin client terminals. With new, more ergonomic interfaces, this new version is considerably improved in terms of user-friendliness and integrates the latest generation of Java and Vmware elements.
Richer and more intuitive interfaces
Linux distributions have long been accused of lacking user-friendliness, so the research and development teams at Impact Technologies have paid particular attention to this aspect. The result is that the ITL version 4.0 features a new Web configuration interface which is quicker and better-looking and notably allows Itium thin clients to be configured remotely via a Web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox).
The final users have not been forgotten, with the advent of a totally new graphic theme specific to Impact Technologies' Linux distribution. Very similar in appearance to the Windows XP graphics, newcomers to Linux will find it easier to get used to and more intuitive for everyday tasks.
Native virtualisation
By integrating the VMware View virtual desktop client as native, ITL 4.0 also responds to an increasingly insistent demand from the market, while also adding in-session USB key and SmartCard redirection, which is not yet the case for most Linux distributions for other thin clients available from competitors.
Finally over thirty changes have been made to make LinuxITL more reliable and more fluid to use; it now integrates the latest version of Java, Java 6 update 16, which in turn integrates Quickstarter to boot applications more quickly.
